Because you matter!
Advocates, nurses, police, military personnel, lawyers, teachers, counselors, and anyone else who responds to survivors matter. You are on the front-line of the battle to end sexual assault and domestic violence. You are warriors. You are superheroes. And … you are probably tired.
Changing the world is tough stuff. And it takes a toll on us. As an advocate myself, I understand how rewarding — but exhausting — this work can be. But, I also know that we can’t end these epidemics without you.
Sometimes, the daily grind of responding to people in crisis gets to be too much. We often get frustrated at the lack of support from systems and the lack of resources available for survivors. We question whether we are really making a difference at all.
I’m here to remind you that you are! You are absolutely making a difference — each and every day.
You may just need new and improved tools to help you respond — and I can help with that. You may need new ways to help survivors heal or to hold perpetrators accountable — and I have some for you! You may need some motivation and inspiration to keep you going in this work — and I would love to give you that, as well.
The bottom line is this: You matter. This work matters. Survivors are counting on you to walk beside them as they heal. And all of our daughters and sons are counting on you to help make this world a safer place. That’s a tall order. But, I know we can do it — together.
